Napoleon: General and Architect?

Napoleon Bonaparte is known for many things; wresting control over France in the aftermath of a bloody revolution, his incredible innovation of military strategy in the early 1800s, and his conquest of so much of Europe. Yet, he also had a huge impact on the city of Paris and its development as the capital of his new French Empire. In today's article, we are going to examine some of the buildings which he left behind.

Socialist Classicism: Stalin's Style

In previous articles we have examined a number of different architectural styles which have shaped the world's cities and skylines. Most of these, such as neoclassicism or romanticism, originated as a result of the Enlightenment or other affairs of the 18th and 19th centuries. In today's article, we are going to take a look at Socialist Classicism, an architectural style influenced by Joseph Stalin's leadership of the Soviet Union and social changes under his rule.
